Black Star Line was built by melanated people, for melanated people. We are not a corporation. We are not a brand created by outsiders looking to profit from our community. We are the community — building something that belongs to us, serves us, and protects us.

We saw the statistics. We saw the ingredient lists. We saw the cancer studies. And we decided: enough. If we are going to spend billions every year on beauty and personal care, that money should build us up — not poison us, and not make somebody else rich.

Black Star Line is a Black-owned company selling exclusively natural, safe products formulated for melanated skin, hair and bodies. Every ingredient is listed. Every penny spent here supports Black ownership.

💰 How Much We Give Away Every Year

The melanated community is the single most powerful consumer group on earth — and we give almost all of it to people who do not look like us, do not understand us, and in many cases actively profit from our ignorance.

• £2.76 billion spent by Black people in the UK on beauty and personal care every year
• $1.3 trillion in total annual consumer spending by Black Americans
• Black women spend 9× more on ethnic hair and beauty products than any other group
• Black women spend 80% more on cosmetics and twice as much on skincare vs non-Black women
• Less than 4% of beauty brands in mainstream UK retailers are Black-owned
• Less than 4 cents of every dollar Black Americans spend stays within the Black community

We are the most valuable customers in the beauty industry. We are treated as the least important. Black Star Line redirects that money back into Black hands.

⚠ How Their Products Poison Us

This is not opinion. This is documented science. Products sold specifically to the melanated community contain the highest concentrations of the most dangerous chemicals in the entire beauty industry.

• 80% of cosmetics marketed to Black women rated moderate to HIGH hazard
• 93% of Black women's hair products contain hidden "fragrance" chemicals
• Chemical relaxers used 4+ times a year increase uterine cancer risk by 147% — 60% of those users were Black women (NIH, 2022)
• Parabens found in higher concentrations in Black women's blood than any other group. Linked to breast cancer.
• Phthalates at up to 1,019 μg/g in hair serums — hormonal disruption and reproductive harm
• 91% of hair extensions tested contained chemicals on major hazard lists
• Only 23% of harmful chemicals are listed on labels — the rest are hidden

Melanated skin is biologically distinct. Higher melanin content changes how skin responds to UV, how it ages, how it heals, and what it needs. The mainstream beauty industry has never properly studied or formulated for melanated skin. We are changing that.
